Department of Computer Science had organized an 1-week Workshop on “Computer Hardware and Maintenance” in association with GLOBAL Computer Institute, Raipur. This was a comprehensive Training Program designed for BCA-I and PGDCA students with fundamental knowledge of computer and practical skills in computer hardware. Through a structured curriculum, participants had delved into various aspects of computer hardware, from understanding basic components to operating system installation and software management.

Day 1: Introduction to Computer Basics

On the first day of the workshop, students were introduced to the fundamental concepts of computers. The session covered topics such as understanding the basic components of a computer system, including the CPU, motherboard, RAM, storage devices, etc. Overview of input and output devices such as keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, etc. Also the explanation of hardware and software and their respective roles in computing.

Day 2: Assembling of a Computer System

The second day of the workshop focused on hands-on learning regarding computer assembly. Students were provided with individual computer components and guided through the process of assembling a functional computer system. The session included identifying and understanding the purpose of each hardware component such as the CPU, motherboard, RAM modules, power supply unit, etc. By the end of the session, each student successfully assembled a fully functional computer system under the guidance of the workshop instructors.

 

Day 3: BIOS and Settings

The third day of the workshop focused on BIOS and its Settings. In this session students learned configuration of BIOS settings for optimal performance and firmware updates.

Day 4: Operating System Installation:

On the fourth day of the workshop, students learned how to install an Operating System on the computer they assembled the previous day. The session covered understanding different operating systems and their installation requirements.

Day 5: Windows Settings and Management

In this session, Students learned exploring the Control Panel and system settings in Windows and customizing user preferences and desktop appearance.

 Day 6: Basic Software Installation

The final day of workshop focused on the Overview of essential software for computer productivity (browsers, office suites, antivirus, etc.) and their practical demonstration of software installation procedures.

Conclusion:

Through practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, students gained valuable experience by covering topics ranging from basic computer concepts to hands-on assembly and operating system installation, the workshop equipped students with essential skills and knowledge in computer hardware. The interactive nature of the sessions ensured active participation and engagement, fostering a conductive learning environment. Overall, the workshop was a resounding success, preparing students for the challenges and opportunities in the field of Computer Hardware and System Administration.
